Repositioning a high-growth betting brand and scaling design as a strategic growth engine
Scope of Work

My role
Head of Design
My team
Scaled from 2 to 10 designers across APAC & Americas
When I joined Cloudbet, the company was entering its next phase of growth, expanding into regulated markets, forming high-profile sports partnerships (e.g., PFL & Karate Combat), and competing for a more sophisticated, global audience.
However, the brand and product experience had not evolved at the same pace:
Visual identity felt dated and inconsistent
Product, marketing, and campaign design operated independently
No unified design system across web, mobile, campaigns, or partnerships
Design function was underpowered relative to business ambition
My mandate was to lead a full brand evolution, build a scalable design system, and transform design into a high-impact, cross-functional growth partner.

THE PROBLEM:
The Core Challenge
Cloudbet had strong product-market fit, but brand trust, coherence, and scalability were becoming constraints.
Key Signals
Fragmented brand expression across product, marketing, and campaigns
Increasing design debt as new features and promotions launched faster
Difficulty maintaining consistency across regions, sports, and platforms
Design team stretched thin, operating reactively
THE OPPORTUNITY:
To reposition Cloudbet as a credible, premium, globally trusted sports betting brand, while building a design system and org capable of scaling with the business.

STRATEGIC APPROACH:
Brand Strategy Shift
We reframed Cloudbet from being:
“A functional betting platform”
to
“A confident, culturally fluent brand for serious sports fans.”
The rebrand was grounded in three strategic principles:
Principle | What It Solved |
Clarity | Reduce noise and visual inconsistency |
Confidence | Signal trust, scale, and legitimacy |
Consistency at Speed | Enable fast growth without brand erosion |
Design Leadership Focus
This was not just a rebrand. It was an operating model shift:
From one-off visuals → systems thinking
From execution-only → design as strategy
From central bottleneck → distributed, empowered teams

REBRANDING - FROM EXPRESSION TO SYSTEM:
Visual Identity Evolution
We redesigned Cloudbet’s brand to be:
More restrained and confident
Sports-first, not gimmick-driven
Flexible enough to scale across MMA, football, esports, and campaigns
Key changes included:
Refined typography system optimized for digital readability
Tighter color system with stronger contrast and hierarchy
Modular layout principles adaptable across formats
Sharper motion language to convey momentum and intensity
Design intent: Remove unnecessary noise so the sport and odds remain the hero.
Campaign & Brand in Action
The new brand system powered major initiatives, including:
PFL global partnership campaigns
High-stakes MMA creative territories
Cross-channel launch moments (product + marketing + social)
Rather than designing campaigns from scratch each time, we enabled brand-consistent creativity at speed.

THE CLOUDBET DESIGN SYSTEM:
Why a Design System Was Critical
Growth had created fragmentation. The system needed to:
Support product, marketing, and campaign teams
Work across web, mobile, and promotional surfaces
Reduce rework and decision fatigue
Allow designers to focus on higher-value problems
What We Built
A unified component library (product + marketing)
Tokenized color, type, spacing, and motion
Clear usage rules and documentation
Shared language across designers, PMs, and engineers
This wasn’t a static library. It became Cloudbet’s design operating system.

ORGANIZATIONAL SCALE & DESIGNOPS:
Scaling the Team
I scaled the design org from 2 to 10 designers across regions, introducing:
Clear role definitions (Product, Brand, Campaigns)
A career progression framework
Structured onboarding and mentorship
Regular design critiques and reviews
Operating Model Improvements
Embedded designers within squads
Introduced shared rituals to maintain quality and cohesion
Reduced dependency on a single central decision-maker
Improved collaboration with Product, Marketing, and Engineering
Outcome: Design moved from a service function to a trusted strategic partner.

IMPACT & DIRECTIONAL OUTCOMES:
All outcomes are directional indicators based on observed delivery speed, stakeholder feedback, and industry benchmarks for design systems and rebrands at scale.
Business & Brand Impact
Stronger brand coherence across product, campaigns, and partnerships
Improved executive confidence in brand-led initiatives
Greater consistency across global launches
Design & Delivery Impact
Reduced design debt through systemized components
Faster campaign and feature rollout times
Higher design quality with less individual heroics
Organizational Impact
Design leadership trusted at executive level
Teams empowered to make faster, better decisions
Clearer alignment between brand, product, and marketing

LEADERSHIP REFLECTION:
A rebrand is only successful if the organization can sustain it.
This project reinforced that:
Brand without systems quickly erodes
Design systems are cultural tools, not just UI libraries
Scaling design requires structure, trust, and clarity
The real leverage is aligning people, not pixels
By the end of this initiative, Cloudbet wasn’t just visually different, it operated differently, with design embedded as a growth enabler.

BEFORE & AFTER SNAPSHOT:
Dimension | Before | After |
Brand Expression | Inconsistent, noisy | Confident, cohesive |
Design System | Fragmented / ad-hoc | Unified, scalable |
Design Org | 2 designers | 10 designers, global |
Delivery Speed | Reactive | Structured & predictable |
Design Influence | Executional | Strategic |

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Cloudbet rebrand was not a cosmetic refresh.
It was a strategic redesign of:
How the brand shows up
How teams collaborate
How design scales with ambition
Design became an engine for clarity, speed, and confidence.
